Photo Shoot Preparation Tips & Tricks
We are looking forward to seeing you soon! Together, we’ll maximize every moment we have during your photo session. We’ll make sure you genuinely enjoy the experience and the portraits captured! Check out these suggestions on how to prepare for a photo shoot and these notes for our time together.
Starting On Time
Being lovers of natural light, the timing of your session is not coincidental. It is scheduled so we have the best lighting for your portraits. (Trust me, I look at sunset schedules a year in advance!)
We won’t stay late! Our photo sessions are scheduled based on sunlight hours. Starting on time ensures we have the right light to give you the best results. So, as you’re preparing for your photo shoot, please allow enough time for travel and traffic.
Come to the Photo Shoot Prepared
Please arrive ready to go. After we've relaxed into each other's company, we will get to work—small details like bringing little snacks and water help a lot. Also, make sure to drink lots of water and eat a decent meal to give yourself energy. All accessories and props should be readily available when the photo shoot begins.

Make Sure Clothing Fits
We are professionals at capturing and shaping our subjects in front of our lens. To capture the best portraits possible, avoid baggy and loose-fitting clothing. Loose fits create straight lines with no curves and take away our ability to shape you for your portraits.
Props, Puppies, & Cars
If you’re wondering how you can make your experience personal and memorable, feel free to bring along any special props. I want your session to scream YOU, so if that means bringing your four-legged friend along or props to tell your story, please do. We can incorporate them into your photos in a fun way.

Multiple Outfits
I love to offer the opportunity for outfit changes during the session. Photo sessions with larger groups might not be able to work this in, but I'm willing to work with you to make something special happen.
Jackets, hats, scarves, and other removable clothing are great for quick, easy changes to get a few different looks within your scheduled session. Many clients opt for one dressier option along with a casual option.
Warning: You may need to change in your car, depending on where we are shooting. Just be prepared for the adventure!
Colors
Colors can work for or against you in photographs. If you’re unsure what colors to wear, it’s typically best to wear rich, warm colors.
Click here to use the Adobe tool to see how colors work together. Mix the colors to find complementary, split complementary, and double split complementary color patterns.
Nervousness
It’s ok to feel nervous! You are going to look amazing! Ignore the camera and let’s have fun! We will direct you in a way that helps you relax, feel natural, and be your true comfortable self.
You'll find yourself really enjoying your session, and the end result will be portraits you will love.
We are so excited about your photography session and looking forward to our time together!
